This afternoon's Bad Idea (though it would be fun):

Set up a mirror of [info]interdictor's webcam and see how long it takes Computing Services to kick my machine off the network. If I could even theoretically restrict all traffic to internet2, it'd be slightly more feasible (generally faster connection, cheaper bandwidth, and I don't believe it's directly monitored) but that would still probably be noticed.

Also, I don't know of any way to restrict all traffic to i2 only.

That, and I'm lacking a box to do this from. My laptop would likely be suboptimal.

Details, details...

i2 only

potentially roundabout way to restrict traffic ... for anyone who tries to connect traceroute and see if any of the abiline routers are on the path.

Re: i2 only

Yes, that would work, though I'm not sure you could script such things around, say, vlc.

Who are you, by the way?

restrict connections to v6 addresses only?

Most universities aren't using v6 for anything besides backend on i2, unfortunately (from what I can tell).

For instance, I have only a v4 address, and I can't even find a way to get a v6.

everyone that I know that does v6 would be estatic to give you a v6 address. I should make inquiries. you might have to do a 6-in-4 tunnel to an I2 router on campus as I'm doubtful your resnet speaks pure v6, but hey.

A google search for site:cmu.edu ipv6 shows depressingly low-relevance results, so yeah. If they are doing anything with ipv6 rollout on campus, it's apparently not publicly available.

Getting an address would be nifty, if nothing else, though.

if memory serves, this website http://www.ipv6tf.org/using/connectivity/test.php will let you set up a 6-in-4 tunnel between you and an internet2 router.
